More randomness.

Running
Did a night run last night and it was SO nice. As I forced myself out the door, I really thought it was going to be a rough run. But no, it was surprisingly easy and I felt fantastic afterward. If things go as planned, I've got two more 2.5 mile runs this week and then I push it up to three miles. Almost there! Yoga felt great last week, well, immediately following anyway. Right on cue, I was quite sore the next day though and the next and well, pretty much until yesterday. All the muscles in my shoulders, my biceps and triceps and three very isolated sections of my abs were just aching anytime I'd move. It's progress, right? I'll post my weekly running report later.
Gardening
My lists are getting shorter and shorter. I think it's about time I start thinking about pansy seeds though. I really want to plant a ton of them this year so that they fill in instead of our winter garden looking so sparse in the front. I'm also thinking about digging up all the bulbs and redoing them. The glads all fell over this year and I guess I had to stake a fair amount of them last year too. So, I need to plant them deeper I think. Also, the irises, though I hate to disturb them now that they're really getting going, they're crowding out the azaleas and we certainly can't have that. Peppers are loaded with blooms, as are all the squash, melons and tomatoes. Should have some Health Kick tomatoes coming in today or tomorrow. Other than that, there are several green Romas and then, well, as I said, lots of blooms. Almost done with all of the mulching. Seems I'm not the only one who waited until mid-summer to mulch as I've noticed lots of fresh mulch in beds throughout the neighborhood on my runs. In the spring, I think it would serve us well, once planting is done, to have a truckload of mulch delivered. 14 bags in the fruit bed (the grass ridden one), 6 in the red/yellow garden off the dining room and so far 10 up front. Each bag is either 2.5 or 3 cu. ft. (can't remember) and weighs somewhere around 50 lbs. depending on moisture content. Yep, I've gotten in lots of dead lifting workouts lately. Speaking of, I've got to get out there and spread the last (hopefully) 4 bags since it's nice and overcast now. Also need to spray more crazy grass of the living dead. Starting to understand this is just going to be a weekly thing until frost. Should buy stock in Round-Up.
Jonah
He's gotten a little more conversational this week. It's funny how he seems to progress in little bursts. Yesterday evening, he was playing and said he was going to "take mommy's car to the grocery and get eggs, milk and yogurt." Those were the last three items we had picked up at the grocery that morning. Of course, then he ran to the door and just about really took off, but Chris caught him. He takes pretend seriously I guess. Also, after he woke up from his nap yesterday, he gave me a nice little recap of our morning. "First bank, lollipop at bank. Then Home Depot. Then grocery store. Saw boat on truck. Saw school bus, BIG school bus. Eggs, milk, yogurt at grocery store." Last night he was being totally silly at dinner while we were trying to get him to eat his stuffed eggplant and rice pilaf, and we'd take bites of ours and say "nom, nom". Out of nowhere, he says, "Stop it you guys! Stop it mommy daddy!" in a very playful tone and then he'd giggle. And some where, I'm thinking it must be in school, he's picked up this weird thing where he squishes his cheeks between his hands and says, "strawberry" in a low, exaggeratedly slow sort of voice. Very strange, but it cracks me up so he keeps doing it. He's such a little comedian, does anything for a laugh. Yes, were in trouble come school age. Today, I'm really wishing we were potty trained, though I'm not sure it would be any better if we were. He's home sick today with something that's obviously upset his stomach. I won't gross anyone out with the particulars, but the poor boys bottom is just raw and diaper changes (which are quite frequent today) are a tough battle of "No mommy don't!" vs. "sorry, Jonah, I have to." He's running just a very slight fever too, something around 99.4 most of the day. Despite being really uncomfortable, he's still in pretty good spirits, between diaper changes at least.
Body Stuff
Haven't been as diligent about logging food since the weekend. It's harder to keep up with on the weekends and harder still when you eat meals out. I figure I don't need to have every single day in there though, since I'm just trying to get an idea of my weak points. So far, it's just the fat. I'm fine on calories, I get enough of my vitamins and minerals and fiber and such, but I just get too much damn fat. Now, it doesn't break it down into good fats/bad fats and such and quite of bit of what we get, especially from anything I cook, is from olive oil. I even buy olive oil mayo (but have stopped using it as a condiment in an effort to cut wherever I can). Also, there's a lot from things like granola and oatmeal, again, they're the monounsat and polyunsat fats that are supposed to be good for you. It does track sat. fat, but that's the only one. As a result of the too much fat problem, I also get too much cholesterol (things like cheese). And seriously, it's not like I put cheese on everything I eat. A half ounce to an ounce a day winds up in my food usually. But, I'm starting to avoid it where possible and want to see how that affects things. I've switched back to fat free yogurt this week, even though it has aspertame. I know, bad news and I'm not even sure why they need to put aspertame instead of sugar in it since there's no fat in sugar, but whatever. I'm trying to make whatever little changes I can without having to resort to low fat cooking or all out diet stuff. I'm leaning more towards Mediterranean foods lately, but they're not really low fat, they just use good fats (olive oil mostly). Haven't taken weights or measures this week. Not sure if I will. We'll see how I feel later in the week. I'm pretty sure I've gained since the yoga and gardening. I always gain after working new muscle groups. Supposedly I burned something around 1300 calories spreading mulch yesterday, but it's hard to say since it's not as specific as say running at a particular pace.
Miscellaneous
Sleeping like total crap lately. It's not that I'm not tired. Quite the contrary, I'm tired all the freaking time. I've got so much stuff I'm trying to get done right now though. I need to learn to better move from one task to the next. Switching gears faster would definitely help my day run more smoothly and I'd get a lot done. I bet I have at least an hour a day of just trying to reorganize my thoughts to tackle the next task. I get too hyper-focused on something and it's hard to pull my head out of it. Or maybe I need to reorganize my schedule so that I have days where I only work on jewelry or only work on cleaning or only sew or only garden. But then I've got to exercise almost everyday and there's at least some cleaning I have to do everyday as well. So, no, I'm just going to have to be more awesome, that's all there is to it. Back to the sleep issue, well, I've taken valerian the past 2 nights and plan to do so again tonight. The sleep I get is deeper when I take it at least. But since I had to get up at 5am with a very uncomfortable Jonah and the night before I didn't take it until midnight, well, I'm just going to have to do better with that too. I'll try again tonight and see if it doesn't help. I keep coming back to the conclusion though that my body clock is just naturally geared towards a later start time than most. I'm not a morning person, that's obvious. I'm really a night person and as I lay in bed in what would be my prime time, my brain just won't shut up even if my body says, "NO MAS!"
Well, I'm going to leave it at that for now, since I really would like to beat the rain and get this gardening stuff and a thousand other things done.
