mellymellAnother busy weekend, but mostly at home.
Saturday was gorgeous, much to our dismay. Had we known early on that it was going to be that pretty, we would have gone hiking. But we still got outside and did stuff. Chris brewed all day and I cleaned out the garage (with his help) and cleaned up some more around the house. We have another pile of stuff to be picked up in the garbage. I swear, we keep just carrying stuff out of that house to get rid of. Now we're down to the stuff that's not even ours that we're throwing away (stuff that was there when we moved in). I wore myself out so much, though, that I was pretty much passed out by 9:30. We need to hurry up and get all this stuff over with, cause I'd like to be social (at least a little bit) again.
Other than that, I've been reading Weddings for Dummies (thanks Jen!). Granted I've skipped over a chapter or two worth of irrelevant information. I'm about halfway through it as of this morning. But I've found it somewhat helpful, if for no other reason than it gives me yet another point of view. There were a couple of things I hadn't considered before that it brought to mind. I've started bringing my notebook to work so that I can make notes as I think of things and work on planning as I'm waiting for stuff to run (I'm sick of browsing the web anyway).
Heh, by the time I'm finished with this wedding, I'm going to have a freakin' bibliography in the back of the ceremony programs! This marks book #4 I've read on the subject. The funny thing is, I've only slightly evolved from my original vision. So, I guess it's good that I'm not letting the reading dictate how this thing is going to go down.
I've been staying away from my computer at home for the most part. So much so that I didn't notice Chris stole my network cable to work on my dad's machine. Yep, his Christmas present is almost done (I feel bad).
Easter was uneventful. I was still exhausted all day Sunday from exerting myself on Saturday (I'm so out of shape!). We went to my dad's for lunch, but it was a short, quiet visit. No egg hunt (worried about the weather, and Zach was the only kid). Just lunch, Zach's Easter basket opening and him running around with about 4 peeps in his system (and his dad running on 6 hours of sleep for the whole weekend, silly XR outings). I passed out on the couch for a while when we got home. I was trying to read, but couldn't keep my eyes open.
I got the jacquard silk for my shirt in yesterday. That was FAST! I ordered Friday morning from Thai Silks in Los Altos, CA. Thank you USPS! Now why can't Fed-Ex and UPS be as fast and cheap? The muslin and dye I ordered from Dharma Trading in San Rafael, CA at the exact same time won't be here until Friday. That's UPS ground for you. Oh well. Looks like I won't have to come in this weekend, so I'll get to play with dyes! Whee! If I come to work with purple hands on Monday, you'll know why (just kidding, I'm getting gloves for sure!). I went with a golden brown for the other color. I thought it pulled out the rust/gold tones in the velvet better. I went with orchid for the purple. I'm hoping it's not too magenta. If so, I might have to overdye it with some blue. I'm trusting the printed color more so that how it looks on the monitor. Hopefully that doesn't backfire. I've got an extra yard of it to play with to be sure I've got the dye process and recipe down.
I went ahead and prewashed the jacquard last night. When I pulled it out of the dryer, it was this soft flowy, almost gauzy feeling fabric, as opposed to the stiff, creased stuff I threw in the washer. Some of the threads shrunk a bit, giving the pattern in the weave a bit of a raised characteristic (almost like matelasse, but not that raised). I like it. . . a lot! It's going to make a great summer shirt. I took some pics of it with the velvet last night. I might make this my first construction page on my website (guess I have to work on the website for that to happen though). I ordered the pattern yesterday. I would assume it'll get here by the weekend. I'll mockup the shirt to get the fit I need, then use the mockup as the pattern.
Other than that, life's been active, but nothing terribly exciting is happening. Chris and I looked at floor plans and construction loans long enough last night to realize that building is not a great option for a first house. We've discussed, again, buying our house, though we'd need to put a lot of work into it. But with property value soaring out there, it wouldn't be a bad investment. We'll see. First we need a second car, then we'll think about future housing. On top of that, it's hard to remind someone who hasn't seen the numbers yet that there is an event coming up in our lives that's going to cost a few thousand dollars. But it'll all work out.

on 2005-03-29 09:29 am (UTC)If your vision of your wedding hasn't changed much from reading the book, then good. That just means that you are not going to be easily swayed by any passing fancy. It's better to stick with a plan rather than change your mind. It costs money to change your mind sometimes.
Perhaps it's time to show Chris the numbers? I always did the research and presented Jamie with two or three options before we spend any money. That way, he knew how much we were spending and we could get any potential disagreements out of the way fast.
