K, so I think I've figured out what I'm going to do about the charcoal velvet for the moment. I'm going to continue torturing myself by trying to dye it again. I'm holding off for now on buying velvet for a mantle (will just get black) to see if this is going to work. If it works, and I get something remotely close to grey, then I'll get 3 yards of black velvet for a mantle and be done with it and only out about $30 instead of $170. If it doesn't work, I'll be most likely buying that special order stuff from Distinctive Fabrics and selling what I don't use.

I ordered two 2oz. containers of each charcoal grey and pewter fiber reactive dyes from Dharma. My thoughts are that I just didn't use enough dye the last time, so I'm going to use far more than I think I need this time and see what I get. I'll spend this week testing that out and if it doesn't work, will order the other stuff before the week is out. Less than two weeks until we go to Indy. . . I need to be finding hotel rooms.

The more I look at the pics of the Council Velvet outfit, the happier I am with the rayon print that I wound up with for the undertunic.

I started working on the design for the etching on the yoke of the surcoat yesterday. I decided rather than killing my eyes and spending countless hours trying to alter pics to figure out the actual design on the original, that I'd just put together some elvish vine designs from other items and modify them to give the same effect. I took my Hadhafang replica and did a rubbing of the design that's etched into the blade. I think I'm going to use a modified version of that, seems like it will fit nicely.

Also, I've been working on painting the paisley upper sleeves on my gown. I'm almost done with one sleeve but have also already gone through an entire gold pen, not nearly as much on the black though. I ordered another with the dyes just now.

Also overdyed the navy velvet last night. It's darker, still has a slight purple cast to it, which I'm not perfectly happy about, but it's darker, and seems to go with the red better now. I'm content with that. Once I finish the painting on the sleeves, I'll set it (with an iron) then go ahead and wash them again (hoping some more red dye will come out of the lower sleeves, but I really am starting to like this red a lot).

Contemplation on the trim, I'm thinking of cutting it up into pieces and sewing them on individually like appliqués, at least on the neckline (the sleeves I think do better as all one piece). I think it would go a tad farther that way and I would have fewer issues to deal with on shaping it around a curve. I was going to hand sew it anyway, using a gold embroidery thread.

I'm also considering doing a bit of etching on my mantle, possibly both of our mantles. That will be an "if there's time" sort of project.

Still waiting on the replacement habotai to get here.

Still managing to keep the Angel gown out of my thoughts.

hee hee! My friend and I quote that all the time! Good episode!

I especially like the video they watch in school - "When I grow up, I'm going to Bovine University!"

heh, when I first started looking into going to the Gemological institute of America, and getting a Graduate Gemologist degree (G.G.), a friend of mine quoted that video, talking about the "scientologist" and how he didn't think gemologist was a word, lol!
