We woke up at around 6 or 6:30am. Chris checked the forecast on his phone and quickly realized this wasn't going to let up anytime soon. In fact, probably not at all on Saturday and only a chance of some breaks in the rain for Sunday. So, we made the decision to cut the trip short, feeling like we got one good solid day in and two nights and wouldn't feel like the trip was wasted. However, since I had put it off until the last day, I didn't get my pirate pics taken. *sad panda* Oh well, as [livejournal.com profile] jkg_vader says, that just means we have to come visit them now. ;)

Of course, as we start packing up, the rain gets progressively harder. At first I was trying to keep myself somewhat dry, but once I gave that up, the packing became easier. We did, however, want to keep Jonah as clean and dry as possible and once he wasn't going to accept that he had to stay in the tent any longer, I got him dressed and in his car seat to play while we finished packing. He seemed happy with that option. Much to our dismay, people would come over and talk to us as we were standing there dripping wet and obviously breaking camp. One of the old hippies came over saying they missed us at their site the night before. He also offered some help and when we declined and thanked him for the offer, he said, "what, I can't come to your wife's wet t-shirt contest?" He later apologized for being crude, but I thought it as pretty funny, heh.

Also, the guy from across the street on his first family camping trip. . . yeah, he came over under an umbrella with kind of a crooked smile on his mouth as he made the observation that we were headed out. I felt really bad for them and told him I hoped he could convince them to give it another try. It looked like they had bought a LOT of new equipment for the trip, so surely they'd try to use it again.

Once we were all packed up and thoroughly soaked, we drove up to the bath house and took turns taking showers and getting cleaned up ourselves and ready to leave. So, at least once we were in the car, we were clean and dry. Then, it was the long, uneventful drive home.

We were starving, since we packed up without stopping for breakfast, so we stopped for some fast food breakfast. As we were going through Mexico Beach, they were having a triathlon (the Beach Blast). We finally got ahead of the rain near Montgomery and decided to stop for some lunch. The burrito lounge we wanted to go to was closed, but we walked across the street to a pizza place called Tomatino's which was really good. We got an ultimate veggie pizza with had piles of fresh veggies on it. Was very good and nice to stop for a bit. As we were sitting outside eating, it started sprinkling. We got back on the road and I don't think we really stopped again until we got home. We kept checking the radar for Port St. Joe as we were headed away from it. Chris wasn't sure we had made the right decision. But there was nothing but more rain coming from the looks of the radar. Once we got home and it was still that way, we knew we had done the right thing. It kept the trip from being miserable, by leaving when we did.

We got home at around 5pm or so, started unpacking and draped all the wet tent and screen house parts over the fence to dry out. We were kind of glad we had the extra day to clean up and decompress before getting back to it on Monday, actually. I made jambalaya with the leftover shrimp, fish and oysters we had cooked at camp and also some sausages we had cooked for the jambalaya (which was also supposed to be made at camp). YUM!

Pictures are forthcoming. Also, I've got a few short videos of Jonah being funny or pretending to catch "dinosaur fish" on the beach. ;)
