Weekend rundown.

First, thanks for all the birthday wishes!
Thursday morning, I picked up a very tired
branflake and Michael after an all night flight. We went home from the airport, had coffee and chatted for a while until her mom showed up for them to go to their appointments (finding a wedding venue). Brandy gave me my birthday gift which was an awesome piece of art that I'm not going to attempt to describe (will post a pic later) and a really neat little green owl bell. I'm just going to say that even from 2300+ miles away, she can still read my mind. :) After their appointments, met them for an early dinner at the 12th South Taproom (gotta love a place with 30 taps and a kids menu). They were tapping a cask (we think their first one) of an Indian Brown Ale. Though, I think Chris' is better.
Friday, after dropping Jonah off for school, I went by Home Depot to rent a Mantis tiller to cut a new bed along the southwest side of our patio. We're trying to cultivate some shade there and all the plants we've put in were getting difficult to mow around. So, I turned it into a flower bed (or actually, I plan to grow our berries and herbs there). Once we get the deck done, we'd like to build it up on the sloped side to level it off. I had just enough time to get it done an hose off the tiller in the 4 hour rental time. That also meant it ate up my entire afternoon. So, I picked up some tomato and pepper plants and a second blueberry, picked up a nifty little LED light that clips onto our umbrella pole for our patio table, grabbed some late lunch and then picked up Jonah from school. We had invited our neighbors over for dinner since we haven't seen them much lately and they're about 3 weeks away from their due date for their second child (meaning we'll probably not be seeing much of them for a while again). We had a nice dinner and chatted and drank beer until about 10:30pm (well, with Dave anyway).
Saturday, we got up and had a leisurely breakfast. Then Chris asked me if it would ruin my birthday gift if he asked me to choose between two options. When it comes to gifts, I kind of prefer to be surprised, so I don't go poking around and I don't try to contemplate what it could be. So, when it turned out to be a camera and he was trying to decide between the more professional one and the small sleek point-and-shoot one, I was still surprised. Unfortunately, since I chose the more professional one (since I feel like we've got a decent point-and-shoot on my phone), that meant it was back ordered. But because we had events over the weekend and then my grandmother's 90th birthday party this coming weekend, Chris wanted to go ahead and get it and they just happened to have it on sale at Best Buy. It still wasn't quite as cheap as the online deal, but we got instant gratification that way. It's a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS and I love it! I'm still figuring out how to use it and it'll probably take a while to really know it. I'm considering getting a book on digital photography. It's got a full manual mode which is really cool, but I have no idea how to use it. All that stuff I learned with my dad's old SLR back in high school has been pushed out of my head at some point. Anyway, while we were at Best Buy (at Nashville West), we thought we'd go into World Market, which is always, ALWAYS a mistake. The past two times we've walked into that store, we've walked out with furniture and it seems anytime we go in there to "just see what they have" when we're looking for furniture, we walk out with a piece. We came out with two new end tables on Saturday. We got a great deal on them. Stimulating the economy and stuff, right?
I got Jonah some lunch when we got home while Chris put together the tables. Then we all got ready to head to Huntsville for Brandy and Mike's engagement party. We stopped in at Chris' parents' house first to change clothes. Brandy's parents have been quite busy with the house and they've really done some amazing work. Quite inspiring! They did all Mediterranean food, lamb on the grill rotisserie, pita, hummus, baba ghanoush, Kalamata olives, etc. Everything was fantastic! Then their cake was sublime! Apparently there's now a pastry chef in their family and what an amazing job he did! We had a lot of fun, but unfortunately still had to duck out kind of early, even though we were staying in town.
We stayed with Chris' parents and they had my parents and
jamosfire over for lunch on Sunday. My mother-in-law gave me an Ivory place setting of Fiestaware and a card with some money and Jason gave me a Phalanopsis orchid. Dad and Alicia gave me a card with some money as well. I think the money is probably going to go towards fabric (some brocade for Celeborn most likely). We had a nice lunch, chatted for a while, then headed back to Nashville after a brief stop back and Brandy's parents' place to pick up a keg.
Jonah slept most of the way home, only waking a couple of times. So when we got back to Nashville, we drove around out just past our place looking at land for sale. We've been discussing this a lot lately and there's one lot in particular that's 7 acres and has city water and septic already and is zoned for the same schools we are. It's also the side of a hill and dense forest like our lot in Huntsville. That's pretty much what we're looking for in a piece of land. Then we went and got some dinner and went home, exhausted and needing a weekend from our weekend.
