I'm moved

Actually, I moved on Tuesday, but I've been catching up on things for the past two days. Wednesday, I still didn't have network access and yesterday, I took time posting some of the work I did offline on Wednesday. Today, movers are here bringing in anyone who's left that's not phone oriented. Then next Friday, they'll be moving everyone else over.

I like my office. It's cozy with all the machines I have to fit in it, but that's ok. I'm not here for long anyway. For that reason, I've reconsidered getting plants. I might bring a couple from home or something for the time being. But no majesty palms or dracaenas for now. I've got enough beautiful blooming daffodils at home to add some color for a couple of weeks. I could bring up one of my bud vases full of pothos and stick some daffodil blooms in it. Maybe the neglected mother-in-law's tongue in the office at home, too. And the shamrock that doesn't really have a place of it's own anymore.

Most of the crappy spots in the walls have been covered now. I didn't feel like painting, so I just had to deal with scuffed up walls with nails and screws in them. That's what posters are for, right? And ahhhh, I can shut my door turn up the music and tune out the racket going on out there from the movers. I've been contemplating making a sign for my door that says "Quiet! I'm trying to sleep!" Most people probably wouldn't find as much humor in it as I do.



In wedding news. . . florists are expensive. Or at least the one I talked to is. But she also put a bunch of stuff on the quote that I told her we'd take care of (like $50 for greenery, $96 to rent 8 ferns when I can buy them for $5 each from the guy on the Parkway, and another $100 or more for table centerpieces, which I told her we were doing. . .). I can probably cut her quote almost in half by taking a lot of that stuff off and choosing the lesser of the options on some of them and providing the options on others. But, if I don't spend $800 with her, she's going to tack on a delivery fee (doesn't say how much of one). Not that I would consider spending that much with her either way. Still have another florist to speak with.

Also, I caved and I'm commissioning someone to do my headpiece. I had to be realistic and realize that I don't need to learn silversmithing for my wedding. That can come in the months to follow. The lady doing it will be back in three days to get started (she took a vacation out of the country two days after I contacted her). She's quoted me a price and honestly, I don't think I could beat it even if I made it myself.

It's actually been really hard to put jewelry work on the back burner lately. I managed to do a commission last week. John in the brew club wanted a set for his daughter who's turning 10 in a couple of weeks. I made her a matching necklace, bracelet and pair of earrings. I really like how they turned out. I think he did too (at least I hope so). I hope it fits ok. It was my first attempt at sizing kids' jewelry. I've got pictures of it that I haven't pulled off the camera (still searching for the cable).

I've just felt really motivated to do jewelry work lately, but I've been keeping myself from doing any with the exception of last week. I really need to sell the pieces I have first and I don't have time to devote to selling right now. I keep telling myself, "after the wedding".

Only 70 days to go.



This week in food porn, we made Poblanos Rellenos on Monday - roasted poblanos stuffed with muenster, pepper jack and goat cheese (4 oz. of each), red onion and garlic, then breaded in a seasoned cornmeal mixture and deep fried. We topped them with the sauce Chris posted the other day and served them along side seasoned black beans and corn and Spanish rice.

We're getting pretty good at roasting peppers. Next time we do it, I just want to do a grill full of them (we usually do them under the broiler). I think that would just be easier. And almost all of the recipes we've tried from our Southwestern cookbooks call for some sort of roasted pepper.

Last night, we made veggie stuffed pasta shells - zucchini, carrots, scallions, broccoli, mushrooms, ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan and tons of fresh basil, then topped them with our standard red sauce. And for the fun of it, we fried some mushrooms to go along with them. Stuffing shells is much easier than stuffing manicotti. I also like that the filling wasn't just cheese like a lot of recipes are (it was at least half veggies, maybe more). It was quite good though. Very heavy in basil (I quadrupled the basil it called for). Next time I think I'd throw in some fresh garlic with the veggies.

Guess it was a stuffed kind of week.

Besides the flowers, how's the food coming? Have you decided on a menu yet?

Wow! 70 days! I hope you two are getting excited and enjoying this. It's a lot of work, but you will have so much fun at the wedding (and once you start getting gifts) that you won't know what to do.

Speaking of gifts, do you guys have a registry somewhere or a list of stuff that you need?!? Just curious!

I've had a menu planned since last year about this time. I've only made a couple of minor changes to it. Only took me about 20 minutes to hammer out. Now I just have to come up with a budget and divvy out the tasks for it.

I'm excited. Things are starting to fall into place. And honestly, this sort of stuff is going a lot quicker/easier than I anticipated.

Haven't registered yet, but we plan to. It just makes sense.

heh, yeah, I have fun cooking, I think Chris does too. And it helps to have two people.

We continued the "stuffed" theme into the weekend. Had a beer and cheese pairing and served stuffed artichokes (stuffed with gingerbread) and stuffed mushrooms.
