Progress on the beading/embroidery. . .

Since there was a three way tie on the poll (my vote doesn't count because it was just testing the poll), I flipped coins last night. Silver bullion won so that's what I'll go with. Thanks for the feedback everyone! It helped tremendously!

While I'm at it though, I thought to order silk thread for the embroidery around the collar of the gown, and I think I'm going to jump on the tambour bandwagon and get a set. I am getting faster at the handwork, but I would love to make it easier. Especially this beading!

But I'm stalling on ordering anything because we're out of disk space which means we have to buy 4 new drives for the server (raid configuration, when you have more than a terabyte of data, you want it fail safe). Unfortunately, Chris is also stalling on ordering the drives because it is a lot of money to spend all at once. I keep telling him to just do it. We've needed the space since last summer. At this point we've totally run out of creative ways to move things around to make room for more stuff. And I've got 13 GB of music at work that I'd like to copy to home (since I don't have a sound card at work anymore). Not to mention droves of CDs I'd love to rip, but I digress. . .

Other than that, I decided to work on the sleeves, since I only had 2.5 yds of muslin left. I cut out the fitted sleeves from the pattern for the gown. I'll use the armscye from that and cut it at just above the elbow, then draft the lower sleeve (hopefully tonight) and try my options there. I tried Yvette's way of cutting them on the bias. But, I'm not sure if I'll cut the final that way, since I'm not sure how the lower sleeve would pull on the upper sleeve if it were cut on the bias (ideas?). I guess I'll find out with the mockups. I still think I'm going to do at least two mockups for the lower sleeve. One that's a half ellipse, like the Blood Red gown sleeves, but shorter. And another that's a similar finished shape, but petal wrapped. I'll see which I like better.

Well... What I've noticed with the bias cut sleeve is that I end up having the seam going either towards the top of my arm (I turn it that way when it's a fitted sleeve), or veering towards the back, (turned the other way...), something I like with the bell type sleeve of the GG... This is something I may not have put down on that pattern page for the GG... and I'm not sure I know how to explain it... ;) (The photos on my GG pattern page may explain it better than I can with words...) Didn't notice any pulling ont he upper sleeve. Your idea of trying out several versions with the mockups sounds like a good plan...

And... the beading looks great! :)

thanks!!

I'll be studying your GG pattern page quite a lot in the next few days. Especially on the skirts, but I could use some of the info on the sleeves as well I'm sure.

thanks! yeah, it'll be more work than the crystals, but I think I'll like the effect better.
