Saw that episode last night, "Homer's Odyssey, is this about that minivan I rented?"
Got my German elf ears yesterday from Judy. Very nice, though a bit too big and I'll have to trim them some (maybe a 1/4" or so in some places). Can't wait to get my liquid latex and makeup to practice with them. I will have to remove my 14 gauge earrings that haven't been out of my ears in probably 6 years. The sacrifices we make for costuming. S'ok though, I've been thinking about getting some that don't require heavy pliers to remove and maybe moving up a gauge (to 12).
I tested my makeup and wig last weekend to be sure I could get it all looking ok. Will probably do it another few times before the 26th. I don't wear makeup on a regular basis (as in maybe once a year). So, I'm out of practice and want to be able to do it well and reasonably fast since I'll have to change in the bathroom at the museum once I get to town. I also need to braid and soak the wig to get those waves in it. Care instructions advise against doing anything to the wig when it's wet, so I'm thinking braid, then soak in water to get it all wet, then put back on the glass head to dry and undo the braids maybe a week later. Might go ahead and do that tonight, just in case I have to do it again before I go.
My body shaper shipped this morning so that's on the way, too. All that's left to do is finish the costume.
Speaking of, very slow work on the gown itself. It's so hard to get myself motivated on it. Worked mostly on the mantle this weekend, but maybe spent 45 minutes with it in reality. We've been decorating for Christmas, and before that, I was cleaning in order to pull out the decorations. We got a tree on Saturday and I finished decorating on that yesterday. Hopefully will finish everything I don't need a taller ladder for in the next day or two (stupid vaulted ceilings), then the outdoors next weekend (need daylight) and we'll be done. Then cleaning up again from decorating and I'll get back into my costume head on. There's so little left to do, but it seems so big and I don't feel like working on it. 20 days to get it done. Well, actually more like 15, because I don't want to ruin Christmas by working on my costume.
No more late nights after this week, so that's a definite benefit. Chris finishes his Bachelors of Science in Computer Science this week (of course provided he passes these last two finals, but it's highly likely that will happen). I'm so excited and proud for him! He's been in school for so long (like 10 years).
Somewhere in there, I've got to make 10 watches and shop for about 5 other people. Ordered the beads I'll need for all that on Friday. They'll probably be here today or tomorrow. That'll be like Christmas for me! Something like 25 different kinds of gemstone beads. The watches I could theoretically finish in an evening or two (jewelry work goes so much faster than sewing for me). And the way I shop, I can probably get everyone else on my list taken care of in another evening. I love the internet. It's made it possible for socially anxious people like me to do the shopping they need to do without having to get out in public to be irritated and intimidated, heh.
