mellymell: (dream gown)

I got the outer layer attached last night. Working on fitting now. I'm about ready to just rip out the basted seams on the under layer. They're not helping, in fact, it's making it harder. I just need to pin everything together at once. Lots of work for a gown I took on as an "easy practice project". Oh well. Gotta learn somewhere, right? I really do like the look of the two layers now though. I'm going to love this thing when it's finally done!

Unfortunately, I can't leave the outer layer hanging there for any amount of time or my cats immediately attack it. With the ceiling fan on in the room, the chiffon blows quite a bit and they like to pretend there's something on the other side of the gown and attack through the fabric. I can just see kitty claws going through my gown and me fainting in panic. If I leave the room for ANYTHING, I have to drape both the front and back outer panels over the shoulders of my dress form. A little annoying, but better than returning to a shredded dress. They are, however, un-phased by the under layer. But, it doesn't drag the ground (more like ankle length, or maybe slightly higher).

Practiced more with the rolled hem foot last night. I started to work on a poly satin skirt that needed a hem. I got about 6 inches of decent looking hem before I gave up (and another 6 inches of crappy looking hem). I decided I wanted to keep working on the gown, ignoring the hems for now, so that I can get everything done except the hems while I practice more with the foot. Hoping it gets at least a little easier. I'm willing to accept that it's going to be hard work.
