I've got a long, (though shorthanded) entry in the works to recap my very busy week last week. The week that I thought was going to beat me into submission at around Wednesday, but I owned it. I freakin' OWNED IT!

Anyway, today, as Nikki of Moms who drink and swear or more specifically, Nikki's Blithering Blog* would say, Thursday is my bitch!

*I can not thank [livejournal.com profile] cleopatramwi enough for sharing those nuggets of unorthodox joy

Wednesday dragged me down into a pit and attempted to drown me, much like last Wednesday, actually, but more emotional. But Thursday? No, Thursday is MY BITCH!

I did yoga this morning for the fourth day in a row. I did it before the kid woke up and was not used as a jungle gym. I was however briefly used as a cat toy, but fortunately the cat gets bored a lot quicker than the kid. I will say doing yoga first thing in the morning is a lot harder. I've been having a lot of back pain lately (one of the reasons I'm doing the yoga) and I'm terribly stiff in the mornings. I think it's a draw between the reduced benefits from the early morning session and the whole not being used as a jungle gym thing. So, I'm going to stick with the pre-Jonah waking schedule as I'm able. Next week, I'm adding in running. The week after, I'm adding in Wii workouts. Or that's the plan thus far.

Jonah and I then had a nice breakfast together of yogurt, fresh blueberries and granola. I got him off to school, proudly carrying the plastic eggs I helped him stuff with candy on Tuesday for his Easter egg hunt today.

I came home and spent a few moments on checking email and internet April Fool's jokes (my favorite was from xkcd it totally wins the internet today). Took a shower and then got a text from Chris wondering when I wanted to meet for lunch. I headed out to pick him up a little after 11am and we went to get yummy fish and chips at Dan McGuinness.

When we were done, I dropped him back off at work and dropped by Costco to get a book for Jonah's Easter basket and a kite for Lilly's birthday on Saturday (they have Awesome nylon kites for $13 again, I got Jonah a dragon and my nephew a fish around Christmas, Lilly is getting a butterfly). I wound up impulse buying The Curry Bible (for only $10) and a Coral Bark Japanese Maple (3 gallon, about 8 feet tall, for only $20). Then I went to Target to pick up a few more things for Jonah's Easter basket (mostly Matchbox cars, but also some bubble toys) and other various things I've been meaning to pick up.

Then it was home again by 2pm. I changed clothes, barely resisted the urge to go for a run and instead turned to my to-do list and started working trying to dig some of the holes for the 6 huge crepe myrtles and 6 huge nandinas we bought last Saturday (oh, right, you don't know about those yet). I didn't even get through one (rockiest soil EVAR!), before I had to pick up Jonah at 3pm.

Got home and got a pot of red beans and rice on the stove (pork has been pickling for it since Monday). Then Jonah and I went out to work on planting our trees and shrubs. I got four holes done and two of the plants in the ground (didn't have any more bags of topsoil to mix with what I was back filling, so I stopped planting and just kept digging). I had to resort to using the mattock to break up the rock. Was coming up with some pretty impressive sparks in the process.

Let me tell you, all of you, the entire world that could possibly read this (though probably won't), I will never, EVER help any of you bury a body. It's not a moral objection, I assure you (that is decided on a case by case basis). I HATE digging huge holes in this clay ridden, rock infested crap we call soil. If I'm involved in helping anyone get rid of a body, there better be a bathtub full of acid or a pig farm involved, is all I'm saying. Call me a bad friend if you want, I don't care. I don't dig holes for anyone but myself. Get yourself a golden retriever.

After Chris got home (and several interruptions to babysit the beans), I started to wind down. I had hoped to have half the holes dug today, but no such luck. Even still, I feel good about what I accomplished and have that nice warm fuzzy exhaustion from exertion going.

Also, Alton Brown's red beans and rice... FOR THE WIN! A steamy bowl of awesomeness, let me tell you. And, the recipe for the pickled pork makes enough for two recipes of red beans and rice, so half the work is done and in the freezer for the next time I'm wanting some of that goodness. I think next time I have to do the pork, I'm going to pickle an entire shoulder and package it up into 12 oz. bags for the freezer. It just makes sense (especially since we usually get two in a package and only ever want to smoke one at a time).

Now I've had a beer and a half, am fully rehydrated (which sounds out of place after the beer, but...), the kiddo is in bed, the windows are open and the cool night air is pouring in and I'm looking forward to another day of owning that shit tomorrow! Forecast calls for "sunny and pleasant" and you better believe I'll be out in it.

"Gonna dig me a hole... gonna put a nerd in it."

Chris is taking a half day, partly to rack some beer but also to help me finish this project.

I remember a time I came home late at night and discovered one of our kitties dead at the side of the road. Mom and I dragged Dad out of bed to help us dig a hole to bury her. She was not a large kitty, but when Dad was about half through he assured us, "You don't have to worry about me bumping any of you off, this is too much work!"

I hope it stays nice next week. Oropher and I will probably go to Centennial Park to check out the Parthenon on Thursday or Friday. Any chance you might like to join us?

Heh, exactly. I thought the post holes for the fence were bad, but this is much worse. It's a much rockier part of the yard, I guess (seems like a dumping ground, honestly, used to be the space between our fences). I don't remember any of the other gardens being this bad, nor do I remember the other sections of fence being as bad for digging post holes as this last one was.

Sure! For all the times I've been to Centennial Park, I've actually never been to the Parthenon. Just email me or something with when you want to go. Jonah will be in school 9-3 Thursday, but other than that, I don't think I have any plans next week.

So would you prefer to go while he's in school, or to bring him with you? If the former, I'd suggest we go Thursday, and if the latter, then Friday, probably around lunch time either way. I'll email you with details.

Well, you know what, it's probably not something he'd get a whole lot out of, so let's say Thursday.

LOL. You are awesome.
I will help you dig pits/graves/holes any day. It's the only thing I am good at, after all....clay soil is my bitch!
