I must have read Jonah his Frosty the Snowman book a hundred times since this summer when we got it. But we've of course been reading it a lot more lately and there's this one part that bugs the crap out of me.

The children bring Frosty to life and all is great and wonderful. There are a few pages that describe the activities they enjoy with their snow-brained friend. One page says something to the effect of:

"The magical part was that while the children played with Frosty, they never got shivery cold."

Really? That's the magical part? They're playing with a walking talking snowman and the magical part is they're not cold. Seriously? Alright. Whatever.

In other WTF and FTW news, I spent a $5 promotional credit for mp3 downloads at Amazon and they sent me another code for $3 in On Demand TV. *scratches head*

I bought Coldplay's Viva La Vida and I'm loving it. Makes me want to write, especially Cemeteries of London, 42 and Death and His Friends (go figure).

I kind of always assumed Frosty wasn't actually real and the magic was all in the imagination, so it sort of fits that.

Frosty in general, yes, imagination. This book however, shows pics of them sledding and ice skating and shopping with him and stuff, so I'm assuming they mean real in the sense of really real, not magically real.

It's really, really insignificant and I think the best remedy is to just find a Frosty book I like better and stick this one in the back of the pile or get rid of it.

True enough, but to children, imaginary friends are really real.

I felt silly for it bugging me so much, but I think after the repetition, it's just really gotten to me. Think I'll bury it in the pile and turn to his new fairy tale book (it's awesome!).

You're right ... that's seriously stupid. "Never got shivery cold." Why play in the snow, then???

Go visit [livejournal.com profile] trickofthedark and see her tree ... it made me laugh.

It's weird and insignificant, but bugs me every time. Luckily he got lots of new books for Christmas, so I can probably stash it in the back of the pile until next Christmas. ;)

LOL! Merry Stickmas! That's hilarious! We had a tree like that one year. Unfortunately, we also had a couple of rambunctious puppies that year and wound up having to lash it to the handles on the windows in order for it to remain standing.

Funny, the Frosty comment. Reminds me of when my dad watched ROTK, and commented about Frodo and Sam with all that lava. He said with it that close, they would have burned up.

I said, "Dad, this is a story about a piece of jewelry that has evil, seductive powers."

re: promo credit

They are just trying to build awareness of the service and get you to install the tools to use the service. This has a high correlation to future sales and it costs them very little.

Redbox does a lot of free offers for pretty much the same reason, with the added benefit that you have to go back to the box again to return the video, so you're already right there if you want to rent something for real money.

Oh yeah, I definitely know what they're trying to do with the promo codes. I just think it's funny that I got a promo code for cashing in another promo code.
