mellymell | I think I've found my first 5k race!

Thanks to Laura and J-9, I really, really, REALLY want to do the Superhero 5k in Asheville on Nov. 8th. C'mon, it's sponsored by Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company. What's not to like?

I've still got my old "Bat Mel" cape, but the shirt is long gone, as are the black JNCO's with the orange stripe down the sides that I used to wear with it. Of course, those heavy JNCO's wouldn't be too practical for a 5k anyway. The mask I always painted on and I think that would be more comfortable than wearing one. I'm thinking if I could get a replacement shirt (Hot Topic has the women's fitted black shirt with the yellow logo on it, or at least it's on their website), some black leggings and a black running skirt, I'll be set. Maybe if I'm feeling adventurous, I could make some gauntlets and/or boot fakes or something. A utility belt would be a welcome, but not necessary addition as well.

Ok, so really I just want to run in a cape. So sue me. Costuming and running. Two great things that go great together. ;) There's a costumed 5k in Nashville in two weeks, but I don't think I'll be ready to do a race by then. Then there's the Nashville Zombie Walk on the 26th. Lots of fun costumey, walky, runny things coming up.

That sounds like so much fun Mellymel! I am a fast power walker and a jogger at best, so I'm not sure I can do these. Though I would love to run in a costume. Gah.....I wanna go with you.

Though my wonder woman costume was from age six or so, so betting it wont fit anymore. :-(

Well, it's likely I won't be able to run the whole thing, since now I'm a couple of weeks behind on my training. Even when I'm running, I'm extremely slow, more of a jog than a run. It's not unheard of for people to walk 5ks. I think Laura might be planning to walk it.

So, I say all that to say this. . . you should go!

I don't do skimpy either. See description above (fitted t-shirt, leggings, skirt and I wouldn't do the skirt if I weren't also doing the leggings). Hmm, I'll think about it and get back to you.

I'll be over that way a lot though. I'm visiting friends near Statesville(though not sure exactly where it is yet) and I would like to try to make it to your party too if I can do the drive. Haven't mapped it out yet.

hehehe, yeah, I'd run a bit more if you plan on running the 5K and not walking, though some people do walk. That's totally ok! :)

As to what to wear... well, I don't do skimpy in my costumes either, but I do skimpy when I run, so for me this was easy, WONDER WOMAN! Now is skimpy to you just showing flesh or is wearing something skin tight but also covers everything skimpy? I ask because I have a bright blue and also a silver body suit/ unitard, either of which can be used as the base for a superhero costume (they both go to the wrist and ankles, and neckline). Just add a cape! :)

I just like flesh covered, but tight is fine. Either sounds groovey. If Mellymel and I are able to make it, it would be fun, and I've kinda always wanted to do Mrs Incredible, Fantastic four, or Catwoman,

lol...I'm really going to try and make it as I don't think I would have moved further away by then.

I'll bring the silver one, you bring the boots and cape & sash of some sort to tie around your waist. :)

Super groovey. I may have a catwoman cossie by then but if not, I can do the cape and sash thingie for sure. Your the bestest and I can't wait to see you!! :-)

running in a cape = awesome
you should find a HASH group near you. julie did it for awhile. Someone is the "hare" and lays out signs to be that day's route. Then you start running it, never knowing where the route might take you. At the end there is much consumption of beer....I'm thinking I may have already told you about this.

Nope, don't think I've heard about this but definitely want to look into it. Sounds like tons of fun!
