Night run

I ran last night, since I didn't manage to do so early enough in the day yesterday and didn't feel like getting out in the hottest times. So, after dinner, at about 8:15 or so, I went out for my run while Chris went to grab some things at the grocery. We had just let Jonah have some ice cream, so he wasn't going to bed right then even if we laid him down, so I took him with me. It was even a bit chilly last night and felt fantastic for a run. Jonah said "cold" a couple of times and I didn't think to put him in some long sleeves and maybe some socks. I have to remember he's not working up a sweat (will be especially important as the days get cooler). When we got home, his arms and feet seemed chilly, but not overly cold. Nothing that's going to make him sick.

Last night was a step back, according to plan. Back to the run 5/walk 30 second intervals. Let me just say, it was easy! What I couldn't do at all the week before last I find easy now. I'm sure the cool air helped tremendously not to mention Monday's extra hard run. I felt like I could easily run another 5 minutes when the final timer went off after the fourth interval. Today is a 1.25 mile run. We'll see how I do with that. After last night's great experience, it's going to be hard not to want to run at night now. Days are so much more efficient to our schedules though.

LOL, it's so wonderful when your hard runs become easy!

I remember looking at 6 miles like it was an insurmountable mountain... and now, it's an easy day. :)

Just wait for when 3 miles becomes absolutely nothing for you! :)

Then I'll be running 5ks every other weekend trying to get the 3 miles faster and faster. ;)

Man, I know we're just on week 4, but last night was:
Run 3, Walk 1.5, Run 5, Walk 2.5, Run 3, Walk 1.5, Run 5

I thought I was going to die. It was pretty discouraging.

It seems to be a big jump in the program, though. Last week was only 9 minutes of running total. This week is 16.

It's motivating to hear you say that something you found hard a couple weeks ago was easy this week. Maybe I can pull through this one.

I know I couldn't have even completed this a couple of weeks ago.

We're doing all running at night.

I wound up having to repeat a week to be able to do the run 5/walk 30 second intervals. Run 5/walk 1 was hard enough at that time. So I wound up doing about 4 days of that and was then able to move up. Thinking about it, going from 2 minute walking intervals to 1 minute added an extra 5 minutes of total running to my workout (from 15 to 20). So it makes sense that it felt that much harder.

Just stick with your plan and it'll take care of you. If it's progressing too fast (which mine was), don't hesitate to redo a week or even step back and work up to it. A week of steady progression really does make a world of difference!
