I think list form will serve this one best. In no particular order:
1.
Hoodie - arrived today. I'm a little disappointed. It's stretch velour. No where did I see it say velour. Also, being that it's a stretch fabric, it doesn't fit like I hoped it would. A little more form fitting than I planned. Oh well. I have not tried it on over the shirt it's intended to be worn over yet. That might help.
2.
Shirt and dye - arrived first, last Tuesday I think. Was waiting until the hoodie got here to dye it to match. Will proceed with that now.
3.
Wand - arrived Thursday or so of last week. A little disappointed by this as well. I got sick of losing auctions for the Noble Collection one so I just bought one of the cheap Chinese LED ones. Well, I shouldn't have skimped. It seems really big and very plasticy. Oh well, I can always upgrade later, I suppose.
4.
Time Turner - not buying. I'm sick of losing auctions on this one too and I've only got so much left in my budget. So, for those of you that have one and will be at Dragon*Con and won't be needing the use of it for Sunday night, might I plead with you to borrow it for a few hours? Otherwise, I've got a gold chain that I could just keep tucked into my hoodie for a similar effect and just not bring it out. Or, I could say screw it and just skip it all together. How many people will notice, really? There again, I will want one someday, but I don't have the time or money for one now. Could really use a real Time Turner right about now.
5.
GOLAS!!! - they're on their way and I can not wait to get them! This was the single most expensive piece of the costume, but I'm so excited about them! They're pretty much the reason I wanted to do this costume. I'm really not a pink kind of person. ;)
6.
Belt - Making it, have about half the parts. I've got some 1.25" white cotton webbing for belts. I bought some 7/8" rainbow ribbon with the intention of folding/sewing under the blue and purple stripes and sewing that to the webbing for the same effect as the original belt. However, what I got is too narrow. So, in about 5 minutes (4, 3, 2. . .) I'll be winning an auction for some 1.5" in the same stripe configuration and I think that will do the trick. Then it's just to snag some D-rings and I can throw that together. I opted to ditch the accurate belt because, well, I just really didn't want to spend $50+ on a freakin' web belt. I really wanted to spend that money elsewhere. So, for about $15, I've bought enough materials to do 2-3 belts and might sell some extras to recoup even that cost.
7.
Jeans - I plan to hit up the thrift stores this week to find a pair of hip-hugger bootcut jeans. No, I do not own a pair like this. I have one pair that I bought last year at a thrift store for the hillbilly costume at NHC. They are bootcut but sit too high I think. In a pinch they would work, but I've got a bit of budget left and wouldn't mind having another pair of jeans. I know, I'm an odd bird for only owning one pair of jeans. I mostly have twill or cords.
And that about does it for Hermione. Except that I'll be zombifying her.
jkg_vader coined the perfect name: Zombione. Since this hoodie is kind of less than satisfying, I don't mind destroying it, just a little. It was pretty cheap too. I might try to find a stuffed cat to maul and bloody up (another great idea from
jkg_vader). And then, some strategically placed dirt and the right makeup and I think I'll be able to complete the effect. Yes, I'm taking dirt to D*C. Ah, the weird things we do for costuming. I guess I could also run around saying, "I've got a jar of la-and!" in my pirate costume. ;) Why Zombione, you ask?
This!
