This is starting to become a daily report
Oct. 14th, 2005 10:00 amThat's good though, means I'm still working on it everyday.
Finished the mockup for my gown last night. W00T! I'm happy with it. I'm resisting a very strong urge to go ahead and start all the dyeing on the habotai and the overdye on the brocade right now. I really need to get going on Chris' mockup so I can get the rest of the fabrics ordered though. If it weren't for the fitting at the waist on the jumper of my gown, I'd totally skip the zipper and just make the back panel all one piece. But I'll get a much fuller skirt out of two pieces and I think the zipper will help keep things fitted as they need to be and keep it easy to get on.
Again, I'm a little further behind because, of the two hours I had to work on it last night, Chris and I sat around talking for an hour, and yet he wouldn't let me come to bed an hour later because of it. ;] Oh well, by the time I finished the mockup and trimmed the bottom hem, I was ready to go ahead and wrap things up for the night. Really hoping I can catch up on it over the weekend. I want all mockups done, dyeing done and the rest of the fabrics ordered by the end of the weekend. That should catch me up on things. Somewhere in there I have to clean house too (that should only take a couple of hours though).
Tonight, jumping head on into Chris' undertunic mockup and those petal wrap sleeves. My goal is to have that done by the end of the night. I should have a lot longer to work on it tonight (like maybe 4-6 hours instead of 1-2). Tomorrow we have to go dress shopping for a cocktail party tomorrow night. I'm looking for a dress that I can wear with that great cut velvet shawl I got at Marshall's. I guess the bohemian look is in (or boho as people seem to be calling it, which grates on my nerves), so I should be able to find something nice to suit my style. Wish I had time to make a velvet tiered skirt and a nifty top. Oh well.
Oh yeah, I went by Hancock's last night, too. Sadly, no cheap suedecloth. Not even a suede I would consider using for regular price even! Looked all through upholstery (they did have some bits of a grey suede for 50% off in the upholstery section that might work for the chase outfit, ends of a bolt or something). Glanced through every bolt looking for something that could pass for Chris' undertunic fabric. Found nothing. I went and looked through the special order stuff and they had a swatch of both the metallic brocade I had saved in "wish lists" on their site and the non-metallic counterpart. I'm sooooo glad I saw the fabric in person before ordering it!! On the site, the metallic seemed like it would work better, but in person, it's sparkly, like glitter, not the look I'm going for. The non-metallic, however, looks pretty good, not perfect, but will accomplish what I need. And, it's $2 cheaper than the metallic. Unfortunately, it's still $22/yd. I've got other swatches on the way which are considerably cheaper, so I'll just hold off until they come in and then make a decision. I guess that ruins my goal of having everything ordered by the end of the weekend, though. Oh well, I don't want to settle just yet if there's something that might work a little better out there. And I really don't want to pay $22/yd for acetate!
