GAH!

Now I want to buy that embroidered beaded chiffon and do a Galadriel mirror gown. I had planned on doing one eventually, but I'm just not ready yet.

What to do when the right fabric comes along? I guess buy it and hang onto it? But I really shouldn't right now. We're trying to save for our trip and it's $20/yd (and I'd need between 8 and 9 yards at least). Yeah, I think I'll just wait. Surely something close enough will be around when I'm ready. Then there's that excellent green gown trim Maggie shared the other day. Maybe I'll just go with the M&J stuff if the ebay seller is out of it by the time I'm ready to order. Sad thing is, I bought a pair of beaded mules for a Requiem gown that's not even in planning yet. I just saw these and thought PERFECT! Hadn't seen any others that color and the price was right. Thought I was going to have to settle for either dyeing my own, making my own or finding some not too metallic silver ones. There are TONS of these shoes on ebay too. Looking for some suitable for the Blood Red gown now. Don't want to settle for gold.

I did a search for crushed velvets the other day and I'm amazed at how easy it was to find several that looked close enough to Eowyn's Green gown. I've got a ton of swatches from like 10 different sites on the way. Even though I don't have that costume planned for another year. I don't know. Once my wedding gown is done, my costume schedule can be a lot more flexible. Might put off the Arwen Coronation gown to do the Green gown instead (and learn to crochet to make my own lace for the Coronation gown). Still planning to do the Requiem gown once the wedding gown is finished though.

I'm not allowed to buy anything until we get back though.

One I forgot to include in here (I'm so selfish, sometimes I forget about the stuff I have planned for the man). I've decided for sure to go ahead and do the Council Velvet for my fiance. I found a close enough brocade on Hancock's site. It's synthetic, but it's the only one I've found that even gives the same look. I might do some local searching before I settle, but again, I'm not going to buy anything for it until we get back anyway. I'm puzzled on the pants for that costume though. I might just use black suede (again, synthetic) or something. Can't find any really good shots from the waist down that aren't from afar. And I think I'll etch the pattern into the velvet for the yoke rather than embroider it. Almost seems like etching to me anyway, but I haven't studied it that deeply yet.

So yeah, I spent the weekend looking up fabrics.

Yet another edit. . . I got a new doorknob and installed it Saturday on what is now my sewing room (office, all around hobby/free time room, etc.), so no more unattended kitties to climb up my silk. :] It not only latches but also locks (if need be, to keep those 4 year old nephews out of there, too). Thanks for the kick in the butt J-9, heh.

She sounded very happy really. Her mom's had a lot of medical troubles (couple of heart attacks, still waiting for her to get her strength up for surgery on her leg). They're all in Alamogordo now. There wasn't enough oxygen in Sunspot for Sharon. Her dad's working on his masters, that's pretty awesome. She's in her second apartment out of her parent's house. She's living with Jodi, the father of her future child. That's exciting! :] She doesn't have a due date yet, goes to the doctor this week if I remember right. She's working at 1-800-Flowers, I'm guessing incoming customer service. Seems to be doing really well.

We talked about really ordinary mundane stuff, like there had been no time that passed between us and this was a routine call just to say "what's up". That's strangely comforting. I felt weird that we hadn't talked in almost a year and what we talked about was everyday boring stuff. But at the same time, it was nice to just pick up where we left off, as if we hadn't left off at all. Think I'll really try to start calling her more often. Once a month should be a given.

Holly the mommy, that's going to be fun. Jodi seems like a total kidder. They're the type of couple who incessantly pick on each other as a show of affection.

We're planning to spend the last two days of our trip in Alamogordo with her. I'm excited to see her area of the world.
