must lay off the wedding planning
Jan. 31st, 2005 11:56 amReason being, yesterday, after day two of sitting in front of my machine at home for the majority of the day, I felt muscles in my right hand start to spasm and my lower arm (from elbow to wrist) go numb a few times.
Onset of carpal tunnel it would seem. Until now, it's just been a bit of inflammation, but I may have pushed it over the edge with all the typing and researching I've been doing in spare time. Time to break out the wrist braces again.
So I took that sensation as a polite message from my body that was saying, "you've put it off, you've gotten a lot done and you have a year and a half to do the rest, take a break from the machine and get a little active would ya?"
So I got up from my desk, walked across the room, pulled three related boxes out of the closet and condensed them into a single Rubbermaid container. Then I grabbed two more boxes, sorted them and put their contents in two much smaller Rubbermaid containers. Then I grabbed two or three boxes and set them aside to be completely thrown away or taken to Goodwill (depending on their contents). Then I kept throwing stuff away until I had to stop to go to the grocery with Chris. By the time I was done, I could actually shut the closet doors and had gotten most of the boxes out of the floor of my office. With my desk clean and the rest of the room seemingly organized, Chris' abandoned desk looks like a dark corner in the room.
We patronized the new Wal-Mart again yesterday. I will say, 30 minutes to do your weekly grocery shopping is much better than 1-1.5 hours for it. Feel dumb driving a block to the grocery store though. If we only had a dogsled. . .
After getting home, I wound up cleaning up the pantry as well, then cleaned the kitchen to cook dinner, then went back to the office to finish up what I could. Tonight is an early night. Hopefully I can get some more done. I'm going to take it one room at a time from now on though, otherwise I'll never get it all done. I figure by starting with the room that needs the most help, I'll have the bulk of it done by the time I'm finished with that room. But no more computer at home unless it is to check email real quick (lest the costuming group get overwhelming). After at least two weeks of "rest" I can go back to it.
