SOLD! to the couple with a little boy on the way.

Busy week.

Last Friday I met with my midwife for the first time. She gave me great confidence in the practice as well as her individual abilities. She's been delivering babies for 24 years. She started the first ever midwifery in Atlanta 24 years ago. Several years later she retired and moved to Nashville to spend more time with grandchildren and such. But she quickly found out she was not cut out for retirement and took over a position at this practice (which is 10 years old) for a lady who was on maternity leave. When she started there, they were delivering about 8 babies a month. She showed them how to grow the practice and really get established. By the time the lady returned from maternity leave, they were delivering more like 30 babies a month. She's now only working part time and my next appointment is actually with another midwife there, but she'll be my primary and most likely the one delivery our baby.

While we were there, she scheduled an ultrasound for this week (Wednesday). This was the big anatomy ultrasound where they take all the measurements and make sure growth is still progressing as it should and looking for any abnormalities in structure or function. It also is the one where, if you so choose, you can find out the sex. Well, no surprises really given the family history (Chris has a brother and only a brother, Chris' dad is the same way, and so on), but we're having a boy. Now to pick a name. . .

Then, yesterday, as of about 3:30pm, we're now officially homeowners. We closed on the house, got our keys and entered into 30 years of debt. I'm headed out momentarily to buy the first of probably several gallons of paint to get started. I promised the dogs I'd take them with me so they could run around in their new back yard, but it's so rainy today, it's sure to be muddy, so they might just get to run around their new house instead. We've got a lot of work ahead of us, but it will feel so good to be putting work into a house that's actually ours for once. We're hoping to get things like painting and new carpet done in the next 2-3 weeks so we can get moved in by September. If we can find someone to rent our townhouse by then, we might even be able to get back a month's rent. So I think I'll post a link to the ad on the Nashvillians community. People seem to be constantly asking about places to live on there.

Phase 3, Profit!

Do you mean the first nurse midwifery practice? There have been midwives in Atlanta as long as there has been an Atlanta. I imagine there were indigenous midwives around long before that.

maybe so, she just said "there wasn't a midwifery practice in Atlanta before we started".

I'm just assuming she's a CNM and I mean no offense. I just think it's so sad that midwives are divided like this, that this particular lady appears to discount any midwife that's not a nurse-midwife, because I can assure you there were midwives in Atlanta before and during the the time she started her practice.

I can't find your email address so I'll just post this here. I didn't mean to say anything inappropriate about your midwife in your livejournal. I don't know you, and it's been bothering me that I said anything.

hey, it's really no problem, I took no offense at all, I just haven't been on a computer since I posted that. I don't think she meant to discount midwives that are not nurse-midwives at all or imply there weren't midwives in Atlanta before she started her practice. I think she only meant there wasn't an organized practice of midwives before she got started there.

A baby boy!

congrats on the house, and finding a mw that you like!

be careful with the paint. when i did the nursery i got about 3/4 of the second coat done before i stared feeling crappy and dizzy. it's funny how none of the 2 dozen people who came by to tell me "noooo, you shouldn't be painting anything!!one!!!" helped to get the paint on the walls or move any furniture :)

baby name...
