Ch-ch-ch-changes
So, there's a lot of major changes that have been happening lately. I feel like they are only the beginning. There are some very distinct cycles winding down right now, and I'm finally starting to feel like some other cycles are beginning in their place. At first, I felt a void, kind of like the things that are closing weren't going to be replaced with something and that things were just ending with no new beginnings (a gap in life so to speak). But then I realized that I couldn't stop some things from ending, but if other things were going to start, I needed to start them.
Cutting my dreds was an intentional catalyst and it seems to have done the trick. You can't make a major change like that without it starting kind of a domino effect until you arrive in the place you were meant to be at the time.
Now we've got a new car and as a result, I've added Chris to my account so even though he still has his own account at his bank, we have a joint account at mine.
There are going to be lots of changes for us in the next year or two. LOTS!
I don't feel like I had a restful weekend. I feel like I need another one.
Friday night, we didn't get back from Birmingham until 10:30 or so. Chris got to drive the car on the way home (heh, I got to chill with the car-puter in the Trooper). So when we got back, we took a joyride up Monte Sano, down Bankhead, through 5 points and back up Governors to home. If it weren't for this guy in an old Ford truck, we would have been hauling ass down Bankhead (I just wanted to see what it would do, squealed tires once on the way up, but I think it was just because the front ones are low). But I did manage to get it up to like 60-65 on the way back up Governors with no problem on the turns, not even significant shift in balance. It's just a fun car to drive, period. We need to move the radar detector over to the Forester though, or we're going to get in trouble. It's too easy to speed and not notice.
Saturday, we got up and lazily went to the bank to close on the loan. Little did we know it was going to take the majority of the afternoon to do. A bunch of back and forth between Redstone and Carmax about the bank needing the title, the dealership not wanting to give them the title because of the personal information contained therein (it's an Ohio title, Carmax is applying for the Alabama title for us and we had a signed and notarized document explaining this and that the state would send the title directly to the lien holder when it came in, this was apparently not good enough for Redstone).
Four hours later, we talked to a manager at Redstone, who then went and looked up some information on Carmax and read their privacy policy on their website. This policy states that they will supply personal information, such as the title, to financial institutions. Basically, both sides were being jackasses and didn't want to work with the other. The manager at Redstone called down and talked to a manager at Carmax and they worked everything out after telling us it would be Monday before they could help us (which made us sweat knowing we had a check out for the cost of the car, one word, BOING!) So yeah, everything worked out, but not without a lot of undue stress. I'm kicking myself for not speaking with a manager before we left the bank the first time.
Chris' parents really like the car. His mom said after their Alaskan cruise she wants us to find her one. She's got a cracked manifold in her crown vic.
Saturday night was a much needed dose of relaxation! Just a few of us hanging out, having a few beers and sitting by a fire on a lovely evening. I had fun. Hope everyone else did. We weren't terribly entertaining that's for sure.
Sunday we took some nice ribeyes to Chris' parents' house and cooked for them. Steaks, salads, potatoes, and grilled asparagus (so-much-food). Very nice meal. We ate outside on another lovely evening.
I've been really digging this temperate weather lately. Nice and hot during the day and cool at night. Getting lots of good use out of that massive moonroof. We're going to North Carolina twice this month (an overnight backpacking trip this weekend, hopefully, then Smilefest Memorial Day weekend).

1. be careful. those things can be tossed around like there is no tomorrow, but when they loose traction, its all 4 wheels not just two. there is no inbetween point like other cars... have fun, just be careful
2. they are some of the most solid vehicles on the road, and that engine kicks major ass. take this from a guy in the trade (/grin) you all got a good one that has me a little green.
coming from you, that's a major compliment!!
In addition to just being beautifully built and handling so well, every little dash piece and speaker cover and what not pops off without too much trouble (just a little piece of cloth wrapped around a flathead screwdrive does the trick with little prob). There's also a lot of little built in compartments in the cargo area for stuff like amps and what not. Chris just bought an amp and a couple of speakers and is going to mount the LCD screen for the car-puter in the double din. All he had to do was take the dremel to the casing on the LCD and shave a little off each side and it fits perfectly where the in-dash 6 disc changer is. Kind of hate to waste an in-dash 6 disc changer, but can't argue with 80 GB of MP3s, plus GPS, plus Simpsons episodes, plus. . . in the car.
Yeah, I'm really happy with it, I feel like we got a good one too, even not knowing a whole lot of background on it. The 2005 is rated #1 small SUV right now (for reliability, safety, hell, pretty much everything!) and they've been in the top 5 for several years now.
