At the one week mark.

Just finished cutting out the undergown. It took me all day yesterday to get all the seams ripped out of everything and all the pieces ironed. I fully intended to stay up last night and at least get all the cutting done, but I just didn't have it in me. I fully intend to try to stay up late tonight to try to catch up on my to-do list. The lining gown was cut this morning while Jonah slept (or at least played quietly in his crib until I was done). I've just been assuming there's no way I could layout and cut fabric without him meddling in it. It's hard enough to keep the dogs and cat out of it. So I'm having to work around his sleeping schedule. I had hoped I could lay the crepe de chine and metallic crinkle organza together and cut both the lining and undergown out at the same time. Turns out the crepe is about 2"-3" more narrow than the organza. I just didn't want to mess with that potentially frustrating layout.

Tonight, I hope to get the overgown cut and possibly even get the lining dress and overgown sewn together (I'm not counting zippers and sleeves. I know they'll take a little more time and patience than I'll have in a late night sewing session). Then, if I can get all the sleeves and zippers in tomorrow, I can move on to getting the overgown put together. My aim is to have everything but hems done by the end of tomorrow (as in, when I go to bed Friday night/Saturday morning). That will give me all weekend to finish the things I didn't get done and hem. And when I mean hem, I mean all three of the costumes I'm taking. Then next week can hopefully be focused on the embroidery and beading and any details I need to do on any of the costumes and gathering things to take. Green tea has been my friend today. Have kept the electric kettle warm and the box of tea handy. Didn't have coffee this morning and thus far have been groggy but relatively headache free. Not that I'm really going to try to give up coffee right now (have enough changes going on). We just ran out yesterday and I haven't taken the chance to go to the store today. I definitely need to if I plan to finish these lofty goals this evening.

Nice little aside, apparently I bought enough of the metallic organza that I can easily do the Chase sleeves as well, if I so desired. In fact, if I had to guess, I've got about 2.5-3 yards of the stuff left. I tend to be generous when estimating fabric purchases. And to think I wanted to get 2 more yards than I wound up with!

Also, with just some preliminary calculations based on the measurements of my mockup, I think I'm going to have more than enough of the stretch knit left as well for the overgown. That means I can likely inseart some gores into the side seams to make the skirt more full. . . later. I'm not even going to try to mock that up and do it before ALEP. As it is, I may have to skip the edge beading for now if I run out of time. Or I might be beading at ALEP. ;)

I've been bad today and haven't run yet. I stress *yet*. When I haven't been able to cut, I've been embroidering. I will run though, it'll just have to be this evening. Yesterday was a rest day and I'd rather not put two in a row. I will not let this costume disrupt the running! On the plus side, I did a bunch of yoga this morning. And when I say yoga, I mean getting into weird positions that would make a contortionist blush while trying to mark and cut fabric. I know you can all relate. My favorite pose is the "straddling 45" wide piece of fabric while trying to gently lay pattern piece smoothly". It's great for the groin muscles. Oh, and I've decided to try to run while I'm at ALEP. Next week I start mileage training and I kind of don't want to put it off another week. I mapped one route from satellite maps of Shaker Villiage so far which is 2.37 miles and does sort of a clover leaf through the villiage. I need to map some for the actual mileage I'm going to need for the days I'll be there. I think Thursday and Sunday will be rest days next week (because of the traveling, even though it's short) So, I'll just have the last two days of the week to do. One is a 1.5 mile run and the other is a 2x1 mile runs (run a mile, walk 5 minutes, run another mile.

I've been listening to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack lately for inspiration. I can't turn on the movies, they're too distracting (I like to watch, heh). Costume A.D.D. is starting to set in. I'm starting to think that's an unavoidable part of costuming. When I'm at about the halfway mark, I start getting distracted by "what's next?" questions. Last night I caught myself thinking about Lamia and planning out in my head buying a corset pattern and such next month to start working on as soon as I get back from ALEP. Then today, as I hear parts in the music I recognize as Arwen, Galadriel or Eowyn scenes, I'm thinking, "ooh, that could be my next LOTR gown".

I'm in a weird place when I finish this one. I don't really have any major parts sitting around for future projects (other than all that trim for Lamia). So, the future feels kind of wide open. I feel a little less weight on me somehow (I have lost like 3 pounds in the past week, but that's not what I mean). This Angel gown fabric has been weighing heavily on me for, hmm, maybe 3 years now, sitting idle as I did nothing with it. The Blood Red gown loomed on me for about 2 years, sitting half done until I finally "finished" it last year. With all these out of the way and my fabric stash utterly dwindled, I'm not going to know what to do with myself. Well, I've got 4 yards of silk velvet that needs to be made into a skirt for fall and the wrap shirt I have nearly done to match it. That could keep me busy. And I'm probably going to spend next month gathering pirate accessories for Halloween. So, I guess I do have things planned to work on, it just feels like there's wide open road ahead.

Anyway, enough daydreaming, need to go get dinner started.
