I did start the skirt for practice, and kept putting it down to work more on the dream gown. Will pick it back up once I've got the dream gown to the point where all that's left are the hems. I may even rip out what I've done so far and start over again. Doesn't look bad, but it could look better.
and yeah, I think I'll leave the selvages. they really are kinda nice and since those are the flowy edges on the sides, they hang really neat on the bias and float well without the weight of a hem. thanks for the advice!
I was holding off on more pics until we get our massive memory card back from Chris' parents tomorrow (so that I can take higher rez pics). We let them borrow it for their Alaskan cruise (so jealous!!). They took 700 pics!! Hoping to get what I need to done to make an update on the dream gown (finished besides hems I'm hoping) and post pics of these lovely shoes too.
as for where I found the shoes, I seached ebay for "beaded shoes" and sifted through pages and pages of results narrowing down to a couple of main sellers. the one I got mine from is in the UK, and unfortunately, has nothing up for sale right now (they had one pair of these in each size when I got them). Anyway, so you can add them to your favorites to keep an eye out for when he has more stock: http://stores.ebay.com/HAND-CRAFTED-SHOES I will say though, for some reason he wouldn't use paypal and I had to set up with this really difficult to figure out service called pppay. Not user friendly at all. If you buy from him and use this service, make sure to use the USD side of your account for the transaction. I wound up getting charged twice for the shoes because a credit card verification didn't go right due to a difference in exchange rates and even though I cancelled the transaction, he was able to accept it and it never credited me the first charge. Their customer service (pppay that is) is HORRIBLE too. All they give you back are generic responses and never did answer my question, so I ate the extra $15 or so, just to be able to quit messing with it. I'd be upset if I didn't feel the shoes made up for it.
but in the search for beaded shoes, I found hundreds, literally in all colors of the rainbow! And the fact that they're Indian khussa, I don't think they'll be going out of style like the beaded mules we find at payless and such. Good luck on your search!! When we get back, I'll be searching for shoes for the Blood Red gown myself. That's actually what I was looking for when I found these. Funny thing is, I lost an auction for a pair that, according to his measurements and size conversion charts would have been a US size 9 (my size), but getting these that are a size larger, they're a bit snug. So when buying from him, you might want to get at least a size larger than you normally wear. These might break in and fit nicer, but right now, they're not the most comfortable things to wear.
