Tuesday, we worked a little on getting grocery lists made and the house put back together to get ready for the New Year's Eve party on Wednesday. But that evening, we met the Smial at Bosco's for dinner. After that, Chris was kind enough to run some grocery errands for me and take care of Jonah that night so I could go see Return of the King with them at the Belcourt. It was nice to see it on the big screen again. I felt good about my Blood Red gown after seeing the real one larger than life again, too. There are still things I'd love to change/redo on mine (like the entire body of the undergown), but for the overall look, I'm really happy with it and the things I want to change, no one else can see. Some of us stood around in the lobby of the Belcourt afterward discussing the movie and other random things.

The next day, we got up and I spent most of the day cleaning while Chris spent most of the day cooking. He wound up doing all of the cooking for our NYE party. He did ginger spiced chex mix, little pesto pancakes with goat cheese and smoked salmon on top and gingerbread stuffed artichoke hearts with lemon garlic chipotle aioli. We also put out some cranberry stilton, blue stilton (a really good and stinky one) and goat's milk gouda, making good use of the cheese tray and canape knife set I got for our wedding.

Our friend Jonathan came over at about 11am since he wasn't going to have a chance to come by that night and got us drunk shared a mead and did the tour of beers with us. Since Chris got two more taps for Christmas, we now have 8 beers on tap at all times with space for at least one more tap on the chest freezer in the garage. So then we attempted to finish our tasks while tipsy, which wasn't as challenging as I thought it would be.

Doug showed up at a little after 4pm, I think, and helped Chris with a few of the cooking tasks. I finished the last of my cleaning at about 6:30pm and jumped in the shower. I still had the kitchen floor to do when I got back downstairs and Paul and Kim showed up while I was in the middle of sweeping, but it was no biggie. One by one, everyone showed up over the next hour or so and we spent the rest of the night eating, drinking, talking and laughing. I think everyone had a great time, I know I did. Jonah missed most of the fun, since he went to bed at about 9 or so. Maybe next year he can stay up later and party with us. We got a fun belly dancing demonstration or two from [livejournal.com profile] sailingwest and [livejournal.com profile] oropher_777. I know all the men appreciated that, heh.

We counted down the new year and toasted around the island in the kitchen where most everyone congregated for the majority of the night. We all agreed that we wished more joy and less drama for everyone with the coming of 2009.
