Thanks, I'm sure it will bounce back. The leaves are still very healthy and in my experience with this specific orchid, if I fertilize weekly with a very weak solution, it does phenomenally and puts out new growth like crazy. I'll just have to get back into that habit. I'm more sad about losing a two year streak of uninterrupted blooming.
I thought that too and was very nervous when I first got one that I was going to kill it right away. Truth is, there are tens of thousands of species and some are temperamental and some aren't. All four of the orchids I keep are in the "beginner" range of care, meaning they'll tolerate some neglect and a less than ideal environment (as in a sunny window instead of a perfectly balanced greenhouse with regulated humidity and regular mistings).
The real problem is that they're EXTREMELY addictive! Since there are tens of thousands of species, and so many of them are so uniquely beautiful, you want to collect them all! It's hard not to pick up a new one every time I go to Whole Foods or something.
