Another fast paced weekend rundown.
Jun. 16th, 2009 11:44 amI sincerely hope it is Chris' father's day wish this weekend to sit on his ass and not do anything. I'm exhausted! Let's see how fast I can spit this out. . .
Thursday - Steff showed up early in the day and her and Lilly sort of got settled in while I cleaned and ate lunch. Then they went swimming and I picked up Jonah at school and went to the grocery. When we got back home, Jonah and I got to go over and meet the neighbor's newborn. Put him to sleep as I held him and they asked if they could call me, heh. Holding a new one doesn't make me change my mind about Jonah being an only child. We made the biggest pizza we've ever made for dinner. The kids had fun making their own pizzas.
Friday - Tried to go up to the Warner Parks office to get tickets for the Full Moon Pickin' Party that night. Lady there said they've changed it this year so that advanced ticket sales end Thursday at 5pm instead of Friday at noon. She told me I could go home and order them online slightly cheaper ($17 ea. instead of $20). Once we got home, they weren't available. Took a drive out through West Williamson and East Cheatham and far Southwest Davidson counties to show Steff the area where we're looking for land. Went back home, had lunch, let the kids (and Steff) take naps, then went to the pool until it was time to get ready for the Pickin' Party. Think the kids had a blast, though Jonah was hard to keep up with again and I don't know if we'll make it to another one this year until we can get a better handle on him. Stayed up late with Steff chatting.

Saturday - Got up and made our version of Bosco's Eggs Sardou (Eggs Benedict minus the ham, plus creamed spinach and artichoke hearts). Then we all got ready to go to the zoo. It was incredibly crowded. Seemed to be a mix of redneck day and ghetto day. I kept getting really pissed off at redneck dads that would bang on the glass of the habitats. When we were done there, went to La Hacienda for a chorizo torta and a ceviche tostada. Made a quick stop in the market next door for some paletas, fresh tortillas and pastries for the next morning's breakfast. We came back, let the kids take a nap and then Chris and I got started working on some homemade sausages for dinner. We did two different flavors. A mild Italian with fresh basil and Romano cheese (which turned out a little spicy, almost too hot for the kids anyway) and a chipotle, cilantro, pepper jack cheese one. Both were fantastic! But it was a huge pain to stuff 5 lbs of sausage, even with our sausage stuffer attachment for the stand mixer. We vowed to get better equipment before attempting it again. We ate a really late dinner and then headed to bed at a somewhat decent hour.

Sunday - We got up and went to breakfast at The Pied Piper Eatery in East Nashville. The food is good there, nothing just amazing. But they've got a train table which Jonah loves. I think this was the first time he ate a meal there and definitely the first time he didn't pitch a fit when we left or when his food came. It's probablyxxxxx because we didn't push him to eat and gave him the option to just play through lunch. But he stopped on his own when he got hungry and came to eat. We made leaving very light and fun and had him say "bye bye" to the trains and we had no incident. We went home, hoping the kids would nap before Martha's Ice Cream Crankin', but no luck, at least not in Jonah's case. So, we had a handful of a kid after a few samples of ice cream. Chris and I decided we should enter the contest next year. The majority of the ice creams there were poor consistency at least. Some of the flavors were really good, but felt more like ice milk than ice cream. My favorite was a jalapeno flavor and a close second was an avocado. And no, it's not just because they're weird flavors. The consistency was great and the flavors were really good, too. The event was very much like a beer festival, but with ice cream. We were pretty much done after an hour there and several tables were packing up and out of ice cream. Jonah was definitely ready to go, but mostly because he wanted to get back on the shuttle bus. Every bus that would come up, he'd want to go running toward it. We came back and had leftover sausages for dinner and let the kids catch fireflies in the back yard. We wound up staying up way too late and having too many beers for a Sunday, but oh well.

Monday - We woke up sluggishly, ate pastries for breakfast and I started to feel human again after the second cup of coffee. Chris wound up taking a half day and coming home a little before lunch time. Steff took Lilly and Jonah to the pool and we went to get some Calypso for lunch. After which, we all took a nap. . . and I mean all of us! When we awoke, Steff was pulling out of the driveway and on her way home.
Was a fun extended weekend, but now I need some recovery time. Seriously!
