Well, at least I realized it before I registered and paid for it, but I realized that the Cinco de Mayo 5k is on the same weekend that we were planning to do something special for my grandmother's 90th birthday. Oh well, there are certainly plenty of other races, though I would have liked to have done an I Run For the Party one. Oh well, I'll plan to do their Halloween one.
So, I've been looking at the races coming up in the next four months or so. I'd like to do one every couple of months. Except, I'll happily skip July and August. Just doesn't sound fun to run a race in the hottest months of the year. There are at least two in October I'd like to do (Oktoberfest Bier Run on 10/10/09 and I Run for the Party Halloween 5k on 10/17/09). So, considering when I want to run races and what races are available, I think my next two will be these:
Judicata 5k/10k at Percy Warner Park, February 28th.
Purity Moosic City Dairy Dash 10k/5k at Metro Center on April 11th.
While the one in the park is extremely early (check-in is at 6:30am and the 5k starts at 8am), I think the run through the park would be lovely and make it worth it. I still won't be quite done with my training at that time, but I'll be really close and should at least be able to beat my first time.
The Purity one is just spaced conveniently, time wise, for when I'd be ready for another race. The next one I'd be able to do wasn't until May 30th. I think there was one in June I might consider, but then I'll take a break on races until September or October and just try to keep up with my regular daily runs.
Of course, my arm could be twisted to do other races if someone else is doing one (
frenchpress?). I haven't registered for any of these yet.
In other running news, I haven't run a single time since the race last Saturday. Early in the week, I felt like crap and the weather was terrible. Later in the week, I just felt like crap. I think I'm going to get out and try to do 2 miles here in a bit. I meant to try to get out yesterday, but my timing was off with Jonah's nap and such. I still kind of feel like crap, but I'm hoping the exercise will help. My cold wound up turning into a sinus infection that doesn't seem to want to go away. Might have to go get some antibiotics to shake it completely.
