mellymell: (homer running)
Ok, so today I stepped up to run 5/walk 1 intervals (like Monday) and I'm just not feeling ready to step up yet again on Friday (tomorrow I rest). I'm thinking about finishing out the week with run 5/walk 1 intervals and maybe repeating this week's plan next week. I'm hoping by the end of next week I can feel up to run 5/walk 30 second intervals. This is where starting at the beginning of the plan would have worked better perhaps, or at least starting further back. On the other hand, the training plan says on this week that if you feel the need to step back where it's more comfortable, feel free to do that. So, I'm guessing this is a common place in the plan to feel that need. It also reminds you that you have to push yourself some to make progress. I feel like I'm pushing myself to do run 5/walk 1 intervals. So, I think it's not going to hurt to hang here a bit until this becomes more comfortable, then I can move on. On the up side, that gives me an extra week to work on plotting a route for my mileage intervals. I've noticed I hit just about the same spot everyday at the end of my 5 minute warm up walk (.3 miles in). So, I should be able to map out something fairly accurate based on that.

As I was coming around the corner to head back home and finish up the workout, I noticed Jennifer, the lady I met yesterday, making the next corner and assumed she was just starting. She was minus one kid but had both dogs and the stroller with her again. I assumed she was probably just walking, so I decided to go catch up with her, feeling I could use the extra cool down. I walked another mile with her and we just chatted about running and preschools. I felt a lot better once we got done, so I'm glad I did the extra walking today. My right calf was really bothering me in the last running interval, despite the fact that I stretched extra today. She said she ran last night. She did walk 1/run 1 minute intervals for 18 minutes with 5 minutes of walking as a warm up and another 5 as a cool down. That was her first day out, she said.

I think tomorrow I'm going to try to do some yoga before Jonah wakes up. That will probably help my legs a lot.
