Stupid Flanders, you're a genius!
Jan. 23rd, 2006 10:38 amI'm expecting my flower beads to arrive today. I finished another scroll over the weekend on the armband. The beading takes about twice as long as the embroidery. Makes sense, since I'm passing through the bead twice. I did take some pics of it before I started the next scroll, but I didn't copy them off the camera. I did clean up all my jewelry making stuff this weekend so now I'm not tempted to work on that stuff instead of the gown. I still didn't get motivated enough yesterday to get off the couch and work on the skirt mockup though. So, I just sat and watched Kingdom of Heaven and beaded/embroidered all day. It was rainy and foggy anyway, and the house was clean, so I thought I'd enjoy a "lazy" day.
Speaking of, I LOVED Kingdom of Heaven. I wasn't expecting much because after seeing Orlando Bloom in Troy (way too melodramatic, I really didn't care for him much) I thought that's how he'd be in this. Also, I really wasn't interested in Gladiator, so I wasn't expecting much out of Ridley Scott either. I was pleasantly surprised though! Why is it that Liam Neeson always seems to play the wise mentor that dies? Very different role for Jeremy Irons than I'm used to though. Costume wise, some GORGEOUS saris used! Though I wasn't sure about Sibylla's raccoon eye makeup and what that was trying to accomplish. Maybe it's something period/regionally accurate that I just don't know about (?). I so want the soundtrack, too! I'm a sucker for eastern music. I like the subtleties of religion in it as well. The theme of focusing on conscience, reason, and right vs. wrong rather than dogma and deities played well to my ideals of spirituality vs. religion.
Just goes to show, if you expect nothing, you might get a surprise. I expected a lot from Narnia, and honestly, was a little let down with how "Disney-fied" it was. Still a good movie, and I'll watch it a lot I'm sure, but just not what I was hoping for. Kong was fantastic though, and I expected a lot from it. So, I guess you never know. Looking forward to seeing Tristan and Isolde.
