Some of you may have already seen my post to the LR_Cos yahoo group, but for those that didn't or aren't over there. . .

I've set up a syndicated account for the Indy exhibit blog that's on blogspot. I noticed the post on Wednesday was talking about details on Gimli's costume and Boromir's boat and "dead body". And all of the posts have been talking about how everything is just so exquisite. The costumes apparently came already on their forms. All they had to do was unpack them and attach them to their bases to get them set up. Therefore, there aren't as many details as a result of dressing as I expected. But good stuff none the less.

So far, the rss hasn't picked up anything. I'm assuming they'll have to post again to blogspot for it to update the feed (if my limited knowledge of how rss and atom feeds work is correct). But anyhow, if you want to add it to your friends list in the meantime so you can easily keep up with updates when they come, the account is [livejournal.com profile] indylotrexhibit.

I feel great today! It was a late night last night, but I still feel great!

We were supposed to start the ceremony at 9, but Mo (who was calling Water/West, and kind of an integral part of the whole thing) didn't show up until 10:30, and then still had to get the "briefing" of what the rest of the ceremony was going to consist of and where her part fit in. Then we got into this whole thing where Mike (calling East/Air) was warning us about his sword and how it's a tool made for death and we should be careful of our intend when wielding it for a powerful purpose (I think of Galadriel's line, "the quest now rests on the edge of a knife, stray but a little and it will fail").

I called North/Earth, wearing one of the pieces I'm selling, Ison (since it was named for the West African Earth Goddess). It was my job, after invoking my element, to ground the energy with the sword for the duration of the ceremony by thrusting it into the ground. Pretty cool! Mike was to pull the sword out of the ground to release the circle at the end.

I liked the transition from Air to Fire, too (my brother was calling South/Fire). Mike, as he poured camp stove fuel (an isobutane) onto his blade and onto the unlit fire, lit the blade and passed the flame to Jason's torch which was to light the fire. When the torch touched the fire pit, a big circular "whoosh" went up in blue flame. Think the prologue scene when Sauron is defeated and that big wave of energy just sort of pushes everything out from it's center (you know, the low rumble you have to specially calibrate your subwoofers for before you start the dvd, lol). Of course a much smaller scale and with flame. But the fuel was burned instantaneously and all that was left was the fire in the pit.

The girls all dressed in "costumes" of sort (and we had 8 females to 3 males). I hadn't thought of rituals as an opportunity for costumes, but it's totally fitting. I wore a long flowy skirt with flowers and vines on it along with a rust colored open backed apron top that has a purple star appliqué where the heart chakra is (appropriate since that's the chakra we were really focusing on). I wished I had time to make a crown of vines from my yard, but I was too busy making pumpkin bread and doing my own personal cleansing ritual before I headed up there (salt/lavender bath, sage burning and meditation).

It was too hot for cloaks, but one participant donned one. She quickly removed it as soon as we dismissed the circle though (it was a beautiful though heavy velvet satin-lined cloak). Even the high priestess went without her cloak (90 degrees, sticky humidity and a fire don't really mesh well with wearing a cloak). Yeah, really fall-like weather there, ha!

Mo, for Water, wore a big white petticoat/slip, a white tank top and a floor length pale lightweight blue cape. She looked fantastic! Like seafoam or something. I knew about the ceremony a week prior, but didn't realize I was to call an element until Wednesday. A little late for planning a costume. From now on, though, I'll keep pagan holidays in mind when I'm thinking up projects. ;]

So, happy Fall everyone! We're officially in the dark half of the year now.
