Blood Red - undergown mockup
Sep. 19th, 2005 08:47 amMade good progress last night, but nothing worth showing yet. I didn't get started as soon as I had hoped, decided to vacuum the floor of the office first. Then I tried draping the undergown but remembered I had Simplicity 4940 as a starting point that I could alter as needed. Deciding not to give myself a headache, I pulled it out to use. I got all the pattern pieces cut out in muslin and I'll work on pinning those together and fitting tonight for the undergown. I think I've decided to make it princess seamed so that it will fit snugly on me and not cling to the overdress at all.
I also drafted the lower sleeve pattern and cut out one of those. I'm looking at 2 yards of fabric for each lower sleeve!! I hate being tall. Thanks
belluthien for the informative and extremely helpful sleeve drafting instructions on your LBG page! My measurements are different but the technique worked beautifully on the first try.
( Here's what I did )
I'm thinking of somehow putting in a loop on the underside of the sleeve so that I can draw them up when it's not practical to stay still to keep the sleeves from falling to my ankles. Maybe just a loop of gold cording sewn into the seam where the upper and lower sleeve meets so I can draw it up like the Shieldmaiden sleeves and attach it to an inconspicuous bead in the trim or something (granted this wouldn't be a normal thing, but I've got a wine dinner to wear this thing to). I also plan on toggles of some sort for the train.
