Everybody else is saying it, so I will too. . .
I loved, absolutely loved, the weather this past weekend!!!
It was just so perfect, and I guess I got my fair share of time to enjoy it.
Yesterday Chris brewed for the first time since early October. The smell of boiling malt in the air is something I've missed. It's funny, I could tell by the change of smells in the air when the hops went into the boil.
I spent a lot of time on the deck yesterday. I find I do this every spring and summer. I just look out over the yard of all the stuff we could do that would be really cool, then remind myself, "we're just renting".
I discovered the perfect deck seating for our house (at least the balcony deck anyway). Bar stools. The perfect height to sit, but still see over the extra tall banister and be able to use the extra wide banister for a make-shift table. So I think sometime this month, we'll go find 4 barstools, finish them (if needed, would be preferable) and I'll make some nifty removable cushions for them. Then maybe build one of those storage benches that will hold a Rubbermaid container that can store stuff like the cushions when not in use and other stuff that I don't really want just laying out. Really want to clean it up so that it's a nice place to relax this summer. Would like to clean up the back deck, too. It's really nice back there, especially since I cleared off the rest of the patio that I didn't know existed. Thinking a table and 4 chairs is perfect for that one.
We're trying to really start doing things to fix up the house. I think our landlord is going to either love us or hate us. This summer we're going to hit him with things like "we need to rebuild the front stairs lest they fall out from under us". All things to raise the value of his house, but also things that desperately need to be done. Would love to redo the kitchen. He really needs new counter tops. The particle board that these are made of has started flaked off so bad from moisture that our dishwasher will no longer anchor to the counter. For as small as that kitchen is, new counters and cabinets would not be very expensive at all.
I put the wall back together. . . again, where Sunflower tore it up. . . again. With sanding and plastering every night this week, it might be ready for paint by the weekend. But if we paint, we paint the entire living room. Today it's raining, seriously hoping there's not a dog in the house when we get home. I'm out of drywall to redo the stupid thing again. Thinking a heavy metal (like wrought iron, really heavy) plant stand outside where Sunflower can't get to it but the cats can get in and out would work.
I have aching muscles today.
I got an email from Sandy today. She moved back to New York state. She's living with her mom who is going to help her with Ronald (her son). Sarah is getting married and moving to South Carolina. I wished her the best of luck. She encouraged me to be an art teacher. :-]
The Dream Academy song, Life in a Northern Town pops into my head.
